The Bulgarian folk costume is perceived as a family relic, which carries, keeps and conveys the virtues of the kinship group. The used rich embroidered ornaments represent a kind of scale model of the cosmos.
For the first time at our Festival in Rozhen we will have a competition for authentic female, male and children’s traditional costume and attractive presentation!
We are expecting you from the 19th until the 21st of July at the Rozhen – Festival of Folklore and Livestock Breeding!
Participation in the Competition is voluntary and free of charge.
In the Competition can perform folk singers, instrumentalists, dancers, narrators, singing and dancing groups, folk customs and rituals, orchestras and ensembles.
Professionals are not allowed to participate in the Competition.
The participation of foreign ensembles and individual performers of Bulgarian folklore is also allowed.
There will be a competition for authentic folk male, female and children’s traditional costume and its attractive presentation.
On four scenes, the participants in the Competition present their program under the following regulation:
Dance groups and folk customs groups – 8 min.
Singing and instrumental groups – 6 min.
Individual performers – 5 min.
The performances are monitored and evaluated by a competent jury, with the best performers being awarded the I, II, and III place in the different categories. All participants receive certificates for participation.
The copyrights on the performances belong entirely to the organizers.
The program of the Festival can be filmed and broadcasted by electronic media only after preliminary contracts have been signed with the organizers.
Candidates apply for participation using a template, published on the web site of Smolyan Municipality: www.smolyan.bg and distributed to all municipalities in Bulgaria.
The application form includes: name of the group, institution, manager, number of performers, e-mail address and telephones for contact, repertoire, duration of the performances, additional information about the desired day and time for the participation of the group.
Within three business days each request will be confirmed. The schedule of performances in the program will be consistent with the order of the received applications.
The organizers reserve the right to change the program depending on the number of applications submitted for the same day and time.
Travel and accommodation costs, overnight stays and meals are at the expense of the participants.

The submission of requests for terrains in the tent camp of ROZHEN – Festival of Folklore and Livestock Breeding, is now open. The Festival will be held from the 19th to the 21st of July this year.
The camp will have 1200 tents and will be divided into sectors;
There will be lighting, security, mobile sanitary facilities;
Special car parks will be available for the vehicles;
The area will be banned from open fires, except for barbecues;
A separate terrain is provided for caravans and campers.
Reserving a place in the camp is done after submitting a request at: camp@rozhen.bg until the 10th of July 2019 inclusive.
The National Festival of Folklore and Livestock Breeding “Rozhen” is an innovative cultural event, a successor to the Rozhen festival which started as a family gathering in 1898 and developed in the next century as the National Festival of Folklore and Livestock Breeding of Bulgaria.
The event features large crowds of visitors and performers presenting folk songs, customs, rituals, oral folklore, dances, clothing and costumes – a full representation of our traditional folk culture. In today’s world this cultural wealth brings joy, pride, national identity and promotes a quest for and preservation of ethnicity. The festival offers a large-scale exhibition of the traditional Bulgarian occupation of livestock breeding, presented in our modern times.

63 folklore ensembles and individual performers were rewarded for their participation in the folklore competition of the Festival of Folklore and Livestock Breeding “Rozhen-2015.” From 17 to 19 July on the four stages over 8000 participants demonstrated their talent – from vocal, instrumental and dance groups and groups of folk customs to individual performers – singers, instrumentalists and storytellers from across the country. On each stage first, second and third prizes were awarded by the jury in the different categories.
Special awards were given to the youngest and oldest bagpipe performers who participated in the Folk Competition of Rozhen – the five-year-old Kostadin Margaritov and the 86-year-old Iliya Kadiev, both coming from Smolyan.
The Bagpiper trio from the Community Center “Consciousness -1929”, Gela village, were awarded as the best young instrumentalists, along with the Orchestra of Folk Instruments from the Community Center “N. Vaptsarov-1927”, Bata village (Municipality of Panagyurishte), and the Bagpipe trio from the Community Center “The forests of Orpheus – 1870”, Smolyan city, part of the orchestra “100 bagpipes.” Special awards were given to Georgi Dobrev, a piper from Plovdiv, Youth Dance Group of “Enlightenment -1928”, Chargan village, Tunja Municipality, pipers Zlatin Semerdzhiev, Vassil Margaritov and Stoycho Chetrafilov from the orchestra of “100 bagpipes” in Smolyan.
The Association of Community Centers in Bulgaria awarded prizes for participation in the Festival to the following Community Centers: “Grandpa Ivan Arabadjiyata -1926”. Tsaratsovo village, Municipality of Plovdiv; “Enlightenment – 1900”, Devnya village; “Father Paisius – 1927” Ivaylo village, Municipality of Pazardzhik and “Progress – 1926” , Sredets village, Municipality of Nedelino.
