Rozhen has returned after a nine-year break!

The Rozhen Festival was brought back to life after a nine-year absence. From 17 to 19 July this year on the beautiful Rozhen meadows the National Folklore and Livestock Breeding Festival “Rozhen” will take place. It will be an innovative cultural event that will take the form of the successor of the National Folklore Fest “Rozhen”. On this note Mayor Nicholas Melemov held a meeting today with the Association: “Rozhen – Our heritage in the Future.” Melemov stated that through public-private partnership with the municipality of Smolyan “Rozhen” will be revived and further built as a festival of national folklore and livestock breeding, as it will be filled with a fresh content and interesting components, namely the Folklore Festival “Rozhen”, traditional crafts, ethnographic and museum exhibitions, exhibition of sheep, goats, dogs, cows and buffaloes, dairy and meat products from the farm, exhibition of organic food and drinks, wrestling, culinary shows and cheverme cooking (grilled lamb meet), horse attractions, folk festivities and dancing on live coals (nestinarstvo).

We aim to keep this Bulgarian tradition in the same scale and to further bequeath to future generations, Melemov said, adding that the expected number of visitors of the Festival is over 250 000 people. Very soon meetings with the Minister of Culture and other resource ministers will be held, concerning the institutional support of the country to the Rozhen Festival.
